Dating Advice for Women From Men

Have you ever wished you could get dating advice for women from men? Instead of reading all the how-to columns or asking your best friend for her advice, wouldn't you like to know what guys themselves really think? Do you feel that, on your own, you really don't have a clue as to what men want when it comes to dating? Well, if you've ever thought this way, know that you're not alone. A few years ago, the author John Gray wrote a popular advice guide, entitled Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus. In that book he shared his findings about the huge differences that are found between the sexes, particularly in the ways they try to relate to each other. So if you feel that you are really living on another planet these days, get the best dating advice for women from men! Consider some of these pointers from Gray and other relationship gurus who happen to be men:

Be aware of how guys keep score.

One concept Gray and others have looked at is the different ways in which men and women "keep score" in a relationship. We all monitor the relative give and take in our relationships to determine how much the other person cares. Unfortunately, we tend to use different measuring sticks: men look at "Big Acts" - large gestures that we make to show them they're important to us. Women, on the other hand, tend to look at a lengthy chain of "Little Acts" -series of small gestures that add up. Understanding that we measure caring in different ways can sometime help us avoid confusion. If a guy forgets to take out the trash (a "Little Act"), that doesn't mean he doesn't care. Some of the best dating advice for women from men: try to keep a balance of give and take in the relationship, and don't jump to the conclusion that a guy doesn't care, just because he forgot a small task. If he comes through on the big things; i.e., telling you he loves you, you can more likely believe that he does care.

Know when to hold and when to fold.

Another difference between men and women in the dating arena is that men often need more space than women, particularly in time of stress. When worried or stressed out, women tend to talk, and men tend to walk. When your man appears to retreat, it's probably not because he's trying to avoid the woman he loves, but because he is retreating to think through a problem and then re-group. If a woman misreads his actions, the situation can escalate into a real push-pull relationship. So learn to allow some breathing room, and wait for him to tell you when he's ready for some attention. Any worthwhile dating advice for women from men will remind you not to crowd a guy or hold on too tight.

Celebrate the differences.

Just because men and women are from different planets, it doesn't mean that a little inter-planetary travel can't be good. What a boring world it would be if everyone acted just the same. Think about the things that attract you to a guy. Chances are, many of these traits are the things that make him seem - well, the most "manly" to you. In just the same way, men enjoy the femininity of a woman, so don't be afraid to play yours up! A little old-fashioned flirting never hurt anything. You don't have to throw your principles out the window to focus on your femininity; it's an important part of who you are. Dab on the delicate perfume; wear your hair down, and even be a little coy. It's all part of the ritual of catching the other person's eye. When they're handing out dating advice for women from men, they'll always tell you that getting someone's attention is half the battle.

Next time you feel like you're stranded in another solar system, think of this helpful dating advice for women from men who know. You may not end up on the same planet as the guy you're dating, but you'll learn how to stay in the same orbit!
