Be yourself
Before going out, you should think well if you are really to go out with him. No pretentions. Just be who you are. Men like women who are true to themselves. It's OK to polish up some of the less refined parts of your personality, but in the end you are going to want a man who loves you for you, so don't be afraid to show him who that is. Your date will either think you are still in love with your ex, or that maybe you are bitter about the break up. A guy doesn't like either of these options, and he'll take a pass on someone with that kind of emotional baggage.
Of course there are no hard and fast guidelines when it comes to dating rules for women. What works for one couple spells disaster for another, and if the chemistry is right the relationship will work regardless of which set of dating rules for women you choose to follow.
