For some reason, today I started thinking about a former client of mine, Janet. When I first sat down with her, she told me that she was currently dating. I asked her how many dates she had been on in the past month, and she said none, but she had gone on one date the previous month. That shocked me. How could someone expect to find love if they hardly ever went on a date?
As I spent more time running the dating service, I found that Janet was not unique in that respect. Many people said they were dating, but curiously they never went on any dates. I wondered, what are the chances of someone finding love on one date?
The answer is less than 1%. I learned from the feedback people would give me after their dates that there's about a 6% chance that you will like the person you go on a date with as a friend, but there is less than a 1% chance that you'll have a romantic connection.
I'm sure you've heard me say this many times before, but you have to play the numbers, meaning you have to go on lots of dates to improve your chances of meeting the right person. Most people give up after 4-6 dates. You have to stick with it!
Dating is very emotional, and not giving up can be very challenging. I'd ask my clients, "If you were unemployed, how many job interviews would you go to?" They all told me that they would go to enough interviews until they found a job. Dating is no different. You can't say that you'll find love after a certain number of dates, but the more dates you go on, the better your chances are.
If you're serious about finding love, you need to go on 2-3 dates per week. That way, you'll have about an 80% chance of finding a relationship in 3 months!
Of course there are some people who fall in love on the first date and live happily ever after, but that's very rare. Most of us have to keep playing the numbers until we succeed. Like anything in life that's worth having, you have to work to find love, but finding love is the most valuable thing you can get.
