Do you wonder about the best places to look for love? Are you in a new city or school or work environment, and just don't know where to start? Wouldn't it be great to have some real pointers on how to start looking for love in your life? There's an old country song that talks about "looking for love in all the wrong places." But where are the right places to look when you want to start a real relationship? Take a look at some tips on where - and where not-to look for love, and find out for yourself.
Look for love in places that interest you.
If you're looking for someone with whom you can be compatible, why not look for love in the types of places where people with similar interests hang out? If you're an opera buff, you might not find the right man at the rodeo. But let's say that you're a real football fan. Maybe you can join a singles' group for sports lovers in your city. Getting together with a group of like-minded sports fans can make for an enjoyable experience, and you just might meet a single guy who cheers for the same collegiate team. If you enjoy political debate, team up with other volunteers in the next campaign for your favorite candidate. If your spirituality is an important part of your life, check the next pew! Many larger churches are now sponsoring singles' events so that people with similar backgrounds and values can meet and date.
Look for love online.
When it first began, online dating was considered a bit suspect. Now it seems that everyone is doing it. The online dating scene offers a promising landscape in which to look for love. If you play it safe, online dating can give you many more choices than you will find just by scouring your neighborhood. You will be able to find out a lot of information about a person before you ever even commit to that first date. Try dating sites that look for compatibility and try to pair people based on interests and values and not just the hotness of their profile photo. And always remember that people you meet online are strangers, so exercise reasonable caution in sharing information about yourself or arranging to meet.
Don't look for love in "all the wrong places."
As you look for love, try not to let desperation make you love for love in a few of the wrong places. For instance, looking for Mr. Right in the workplace is probably not a good idea in general, and many companies even have rules against fraternization among employees. If you're thirsty, by all means go to a bar for a drink, but contrary to popular belief, that's not going to be the most likely place to find lasting love. You might get a lot of pick-up offers, but at this point in your life, you're looking for something a bit longer lasting and with more substance.
Sometimes we find love when and where we least expect it, so always keep yourself open to the possibility of finding true love. But by putting yourself in the right place at the right time, and knowing where to look for love, you will increase your opportunities to find someone with whom you can share a meaningful relationship.
